Privacy in baby apps: six questions to check
As of: 12.10.2026
A baby app collects a lot about your child: sleep times, meals, diapers, notes. Such entries can include health data about your child. You can check any app with these six questions. Under each question you find how naido answers it.
1. Where is the forecast computed?
A sleep forecast needs your child’s entries. The question is whether they travel to a provider’s server for it or stay on your phone.
naido: Your phone computes the forecast. No data is transferred for it, and it works without a connection.
2. Do you need an account?
An account links your child’s entries to an email address or a name. Without an account, that link does not exist.
naido: There is no naido account, no email address and no registration. You buy Naido Premium through Google Play. naido does not receive card or account numbers; in the Play Console we can see order details such as price, taxes, region and the Google account’s email address (privacy policy, section 4).
3. Who can read the entries?
“Encrypted” can mean many things. End-to-end encrypted means: only your own devices hold the key, the provider does not.
naido: On the same Wi-Fi your devices exchange data directly and encrypted, without our server. When you sync over the internet, only an end-to-end encrypted package sits in a mailbox in the EU; while it is switched on, that package goes there even when you are at home on the same Wi-Fi. We see the mailbox address, version and time information and, if applicable, the Premium proof, but no entries. naido encrypts backup files when you set a password; without a password, anyone who has the file can read it.
4. Which third-party services are inside the app?
Ads, analytics tools and crash reporters send data to third parties. The privacy policy and the privacy details in the App Store and on Google Play tell you more.
naido: The Android app contains no ads and no analytics or crash reporting services. Neither does this website.
5. How long is data kept, and how do you delete it?
A fixed period and a way to delete data yourself are good signs.
naido: The mailbox for syncing over the internet is deleted 30 days after the last upload, or straight away if you delete it in the app. naido only turns on syncing over the internet after your explicit consent; revoking it in the sync settings deletes the mailbox. On your phone the entries stay until you delete them. Uninstalling removes them from the phone, but not backup files or copies on paired devices.
6. Can you get your data at any time?
Under Art. 15 and 20 GDPR you have a right of access and a right to your data in a common, machine-readable format. The easiest way is an export right in the app.
naido: You export all entries any time as CSV or JSON and can create backup files, automatically if you like. naido takes data from other apps along via import.
Where to find the answers
The provider’s privacy policy, the privacy label in the App Store and the data safety section on Google Play answer most of these questions. For naido everything is in the privacy policy. How other sleep apps answer these questions according to their own information is shown in the comparison on the home page.
